Celebrate 30 years of musical excellence with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir
The 2015-2016 Indianapolis Children’s Choir season will be a farewell and a celebration of the impact ICC founder Henry Leck, who announced his retirement in July, has had on countless young musicians and the choral community.
The Indianapolis Children’s Choir nurtures and inspires student achievement through quality music education and the pursuit of artistic excellence in choral music performance. The ICC envisions a future where excellence in choral singing is valued and supported for all children in the community – bridging cultures, ethnicities and economic backgrounds.
Founded in 1986 by artistic director Henry Leck, the ICC provides an opportunity for young people to learn, grow, and excel through quality instruction and experiences that emphasize the development of musical skills and understanding.
As I enter my final season with the choir, my wish is that the ICC will continue to thrive forever, and that it will continue to include children of all backgrounds, create great music, and create experiences that kids will remember long after the last note of the final performance has been sung.
– Henry Leck
Founder and Artistic Director
In its 30 years, the ICC has grown from two small choirs to one of the largest choral organizations of its kind, with nearly 20 choirs and many music classes serving more than 3,000 young people from ages 18 months to 18 years. The ICC impacts an additional 2,000 children through its Innovations program, which directly supports music in local schools. ICC singers have traveled to and performed on six continents and have performed in some of the world’s most recognizable venues and events.
Children are capable of being very artistic and can have a phenomenal understanding of music and of the world around them. If they believe that they can do it, and the conductor doesn’t limit them, their potential is limitless.
