DIRECTING MUSIC AT PLAY
Alyssa Anderson is an elementary music educator at Pine Tree Elementary school in the Avon Community School Corporation. There she teaches grades kindergarten through fourth grade with fifth grade coming next year. Alyssa is entering year 13 as an educator, this is year 7 in Avon and her first 6 years of teaching were at Danville North Elementary (a kindergarten through second grade building). She has a passion for our youngest musicians and enjoys when the primary grades have an opportunity to explore, create and experience music at their unique level.
In 2011, Alyssa graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education from Anderson University and has been teaching ever since. She is certified in the Orff Schulwerk method of teaching and loves seeing the children come to life through active music making with this approach. She currently sits on the IMEA (Indiana Music Education Association) Board and has participated in ICC’s Teacher Symposium as well. Teaching Color guard/Winter guard, Choir Club, Drama Club, Orff Schulwerk Club and Folk Dance Club are all extra teaching opportunities that she has really enjoyed being a part of. Outside of school, Alyssa’s family keeps her plenty busy with park adventures, church activities, and all the things that a 3 and 6 year old do. She is really excited to start her teaching journey with ICC and to meet all the young musicians who will attend the MAP class an Hendricks County this year.
