IYC Singers!

I am so proud of you! You have been working so hard on the music for November 1 and 8. But we are not there yet. Now is the time to work smarter, not harder. You should know (based on what your pencil put in your score and your memory) what needs work. Don’t waste your time going through Mvts 1 and 2. I think we are good there.

Review Mvt 3. There are dissonances we are missing and there needs to be more dynamic contrast. Mvt 4 is good. Look at Mvt 5. All entrances need to be stronger. Pitches need to be more secure. Word stresses need to be better. Tenors: 3 ms before 46. Mvt 6: the opening is much better now. Practice finding that starting pitch. Remember the whole opening 11 bars are a cappella. It needs to be strong and confident. Before 59 all notes must be stronger! Mvts 5 and 6 need the most work.

I was at the Cathedral today. You are going to LOVE singing there. It will sing back to you. Unfortunately with the beautiful resonance and the orchestra, no diction will be understood unless you really over enunciate and really stress the right syllables. Your preparation this week is REALLY CRITICAL. Please take the time to work on the difficult spots in the score. Cyberbass will help you! I want you to sing with confidence next Sunday, and I hope you will love this work as much as I do!!!

Don’t forget to have Tambourines and Bright Morning Stars memorized. I think the Mozart is up and running.

Remember to bring your dress uniform in a garment bag, park in the Catholic Center lot and come dressed with your blue casual uniform shirt (your choice of bottoms). The other choirs will look sharp and we need to do the same. Come early enough to be able to park, drop off your uniform, cross the street and be ready to sing by 12:30pm. We will need some help setting up.

I am SO EXCITED!! It isn’t every day you get to perform a major work with orchestra!! Let’s kick off this season with a bang!!!
