Max’s Magical Moment
“My son Max has always loved music…
From James Taylor to Taylor Swift, there are few moments when melodies aren’t blaring through our house. Max also has a disability, which has made finding extra-curricular activities tricky. In his early years, much of our time was spent at therapy, and as he grew older, we struggled to find something that fit his interests and abilities. Last winter, we found ICC’s Jubilate Choir, and it has been the perfect fit. He loved attending the weekly practices and meeting new friends, and I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know other parents.
As the semester culminated into the spring concert, we both waited nervously on the wings of the stage. I wondered if he would do okay with the bright lights and large crowd. Would he sing? Would he become overwhelmed? Tears formed in my eyes as the music began, and I heard his voice, loudly and clearly, singing out the words. When I asked him afterwards if he was nervous, he replied, “No, my friends were with me.”
Jubilate has been a gift and an answer to prayer. ICC does not merely tolerate Max being included, but rather, they believe he is a valuable member who deserves access to music just like anyone else. Our entire family is so grateful for this opportunity.”
