Nicholas Kohne
DIRECTOR, CICC DESCANT CHOIR
Nicholas Kohne is the director for the Descant Choir of the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir. He has served with the CICC since 2013 and is an alumnus of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, singing from 1995-2004. He is also the elementary music teacher and middle school choir and drama director at Greenwood Christian Academy, a private school in Johnson County.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Kohne continues to practice his musician skills by singing as a member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir where he has been a member since 2009. In 2012, Mr. Kohne had the opportunity to sing with Madonna in the Super Bowl XLVI Half Time Show and in 1999 with Celine Dion.
Mr. Kohne has been heavily involved with the Indiana Music Education Association’s Circle the State with Song where he served as the area 8 elementary coordinator and continues to participate in both elementary and middle school. Students of Mr. Kohne have participated in IMEA Honor Choirs and OAKE National Conference Choirs. Mr. Kohne serves as the treasurer for the Indiana Kodály Educators.
In 2008, Mr. Kohne received his Bachelor of Music Education with a choral music emphasis from Cedarville University. He received his Kodály certification at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2023. He is an active member of NAfME, IMEA, and OAKE. Mr. Kohne has served more than fifteen years as a camp counselor and teaches in the children’s ministry at Community Church of Greenwood. He is also a marathon and ultra runner.
